Education Q&A

Ut Dental School, Choosing a dental school

ECept Education > Online Degree

Q. I recently got accepted into UT-Houston dental school and Baylor College of Dentistry....to those who have graduated from there or have heard of these TX schools (UT-San Antonio also), what are your opinions/comments? Also, has any dentists out there gone through the Army/Navy/Air Force Health Professions Scholarship program?

A. I do not know about the Texas dental schools, but if they want to make a bonfire of any kind, I would go elsewhere. worry about except graduating form dental school your course will be mapped for you the next five years after graduating. Go with the army program the navy has some real remote assignments and less oppertunities for training. Airforce is good but they have a smaller corps and budget. What about UT-Houston? Are you implying that the UT-Houston dental school program is not as stong as the others? If so, why not? Well, when I went to dental school the financial aid office provided me with every federal loan I needed to graduate! You really have nothing to worry about. The school will then inform you of upcoming scholarships or grants as they become available. In my experience these scholarships and grants were very scarce, though. As for dental books, they are expensive. It may be a good idea, also, to see if the school that you are going to has a cental sterilization that supplies you with instruments during your residency period or if you need to purchase your instruments seperately. My bookstore debt was close to 16,000 dollars (we had to buy our instruments) and my total bill just for tuition and the spending money that they give you so that you can concentrate on school work and not employ yourself was 40,000 dollars per year! yes, PER YEAR. This was standard for everyone and I just graduated 2 years ago.
