University Of Miami Law School, DL Law Schools - LLM possibilities (Long List)ECept Education > Online Degree Q. This is a list of American Bar Association approved Law schools for LLM studies that MAY accept DL JD degrees. This list was compiled from the individual web sites and therefore may not be 100% accurate. Perhaps John Bear can verify? Anyway, no flames please. I thought this would be useful information to those looking at DL Law degrees and the *saratoga* LL.M. end run to be eligible for the bar in States other than California. I did this research because I am looking at DL Law study. In the next week I will be personally contacting each of these universities. I will post my results and my opinion of how I was treated. A. I could certainly be wrong, but I thought that John Bear (or some ng participant) had come across information (perhaps from the ABA) that said the end-run would not work because the ABA would not accept it (or some such). Not me. I offered the prediction that the ABA was unlikely to accept it. No hard information, just their years of resistance to the concept of "alternative" law education. It was, I believe, less than 50 years ago that half of all lawyers in the US qualified through private study with a lawyer or judge (the "Abraham Lincoln method"), and now it is surely well under one percent, although there are a few each year. The issue is a bit confused here because it doesn't matter whether the ABA accepts such a degree. What matters is whether a particular State Bar (or whoever certifies lawyers in that state) will accept an LLM from an ABA accredited law school for admission when the applicant does not have a first law degree (JD or LLB) from an ABA accredited school. I don't know of anyone who has successfully done this, despite the fact that some have earned LLM's for this purpose. Most admissions requirement for State Bars expressly state that the first law degree must be from an ABA accredited school. Here's what I stated previously: The Bar admissions requirements of almost all states expressly state that the ABA accredited law degree MUST BE a FIRST law degree (LLB or JD). I have not surveyed all states but the following so state: ohio, ok, ny, utah, pa, alabama, alaska, col, fl, georgia, nm, or. I would suggest carefully examining the bar admission rules for one's proposed jurisdiction before relying upon the LLM end run. Of course, "attorney applicants" may be admitted with graduation from a non-ABA school but this requires active law practice for 2-5 years.
