Joining CORGI - which course?

Q. Theres a 5 day training course for complete beginners? wow,how things have changed. Out of interest,does anyone know for certain how much training/assessment time would be required to qualify someone with no gas experience at all (i.e a carpet fitter or other unrelated trade) to someone who is certificated to work on all domestic installations/appliances? Its not a five day training course its an assessment course for ACOPS certifications which all gas fitters have to have and have to renew every five years. CORGI operatives have to have that certification and then register with CORGI. CORGI then come out and assess their work standard.

A. Now we have ACS assessment instead, and it's all privatised. Once you pass your ACS assessment, you can join CORGI. Firstly there is the core skills assessment which takes five days, then further elements of specialisation eg CH boilers, cookers, gas fires, meters etc, each taking a further day for assessment. But before all this, it is a Good Idea to get some training for the assessments. My local training establishments recommend anything from 2.5 days to 7 days of training before attempting the core skills assessment. The further ACS elements seem to take about a day each of training in addition to the day each taken for assessment. It all adds up to about four weeks of training and assessment. I'm trying to establish which course(s) I should take as they are bl**dy expensive and I'd hate to be wasting my time and cash by buying training which is too basic for my curent level of knowledge
