Tennessee GedECept Education > Continuing Education Q. Im a 20yr old female that has drop out of highschool at the age of 16 for a good reason to take care of my mother.I know want to get back in school but dont know how.I really dont want to go to public school I really would like to take some adult classes but not like GED classes I want real high school classes. So is there anyone in Tennessee or anywhere that can help me try to get in a adult school.Or is there anyone in my area of Chattanooga Tn that is interested in being a home school teacher for me?.Or is there a nonpayable Home schooling courses i can take?... A. I don't know on Chatanooga, but Memphis has what is called "Middle College High School", which is high school classes on a community college campus and a community college schedule, particularly for returning and working students, so it might be worth contacting your local school district and see what is offered. I also know we offer some night school classes which are more standard classes, but whether they'd be enough to lead to a diploma other than the GED, I don't know. (I'm in the elementary side, so I don't know as much on secondary offerings. TN homeschooling laws require you to be associated with a school-either a school district or a private school. If a public school district, you would have to pass all gateway tests to get a diploma-and frankly, I'd be tempted to go straight for the GED and avoid that hassle, since they change every year as to what is required, and in your case, there could be made a case BOTH for you having to meet requirements of your entry year, and of your graduation year. For a private school the fees can be rather costly, and they will have their own graduation requirements. Gateway Christian is one of the homeschooling programs in TN-in fact, they have no bricks and mortar campus whatsoever. They're located in Memphis, but I know they take students statewide. TN does not yet have a virtual charter program, but with the growth of charters statewide, that may be an option in the near future-but again, may not have high school level classes. Another possibility might be something like Job Corps-I don't know much about it, but I know they provide high school education and vocational training, particularly for young adult students who are older than traditional high school age, free of charge (actually, I think they pay a stipend while you;'re doing the program). I don't know what sort of care requirements your mother has, though-this may make this unusable for you.
