Information Technology via Distance EducationECept Education > Distance Education Q. The Princeton Review/Random House this week released the book "Best Distance Learning Graduate Schools: Earning Your Degree Without Leaving Home." The book profiles 195 accredited universities offering over 1,000 distance learning degrees or career credentials at the graduate level. All programs profiled in the guide require either no time on-campus or short learning residencies of a few weeks each year. Introductory chapters cover consumer-related topics on how to spot -- and avoid! -- Internet degree mills; selecting the best distance delivery method (video versus Internet and postal express) and; financing your cyber-degree. Industry-watcher and Web-based education expert Brandon Hall, an advance reviewer of the book, has this to say: "Give the authors an A! This is a terrific resource for those seeking a graduate degree online or from home." A. The book is co-authored by distance learning experts Vicky Phillips and Cindy Yager of Lifelong Learning. Vicky designed and directed America's first online consulting center for distance learners on America Online. She is the publisher of the The Virtual University Gazette, http://www.geteducated.com/vugaz.htm, and author of the weekly syndicated column on distance learning, "Leap Ahead With Distance Ed." Vicky and Cindy also host the Adult Education & Distance Learner's Resource Center, http://www.geteducated.com, recently featured in "Time" magazine. "Best Distance Learning Graduate Schools: Earning Your Degree Without Leaving Home," (ISBN# 0-679-76930-7) is described further online at http://www.geteducated.com/bestgrad.htm. One is DEOS (Distance Education Online Service); the other is AEDnet (Adult Education Network). One is run by Penn State University, the other by Nova Southeastern University, but I'm afraid that, since I am traveling and don't even have ready access to my own book, much less my files, I cannot provide URLs, or even be sure which one is at which university. One place you might look is the IEEE LTSC (Learning Technology Standards Committee), that is involved in the standardization of digital learning objects. Even if you have no interest in learning objects, many of the game players in educational delivery are interested so you may get some collateral information. This site has a link to the committee (which has an email newsletter) and a few related sites: http://www.logopoeia.com/learningobjects/ Some other, random links: http://www.c2t2.ca/landonline/index.html (reviews 56 educational delivery software products) http://olt-bta.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/resources/index_e.html (contains a link to a nice list of journals) http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Instructional_Technology/Higher_E...
