Any leads for a decent car or a place to look for one ? A. You don't say where you are located. I'll stick to the general stuff here. Do you have a racing license? Or are you brand new to racing? The best place to find a race car for sale is at the track. Other possible places to look would be the newsletter for your local racing club. If you're in the U.S., that would probably be the local SCCA region. Check http://www.scca.org as a starting point for your search on the web. The best way to test drive a race car is to race it. Rent the car for a weekend before you buy it. Usually, you'll need to give the owner a deposit that's basically the price he's willing to sell the car for. Racing is dangerous, can be hard on equipment, and there's no insurance out there. You're responsible for any accident you get into, even if someone else causes it. Rent the car for a school, for a race weekend if you have your racing license already, or even for a high performance driving school run by the Porsche Club of America or the BMW Club of America. There might be some Miata clubs with track days as well, but I'm not so familiar with those (shame on me!). Actually, if you're brand new to racing, you're probably best off renting cars for your drivers schools and your first couple of races. That way, you can concentrate on your driving and your race craft and let the car owner worry about keeping the thing running right. Once you find a car that you want to buy, you should take delivery of it immediately at the end of the race weekend. If it's your second time driving that one, and you think you want to buy it, you might even bring a trailer with you to the track and take it home at the end of the event. You want to be absolutely certain that the car you are buying is exactly the car in exactly the same setup as you raced it. Don't pick it up a week later and expect it to be the same car. It might be, but it might not be. It might have all the same parts, but be adjusted and set up completely different from the way it was when you last drove it.
