Any information about the driving portion of the test would be appreciated?ECept Education > Driver Education Q. I just bought a new Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom last week and I don't have a motorcycle license yet. Well, I passed the written test so I have a "learner's" permit. Which seems weird since I've driven motorcycles since I was a teenager, but I haven't had a motorcycle license in 25 years. Nonetheless, to get my license I still have to take a driving test. So, I'm wondering what exactly does a California motorcycle driving test consist of? I heard it is some kind of skills test but my question is for those of you in California who have taken it already. What is it like? Is it difficult? I have to take it in a month. Does it take a lot of practice, and what do you need to practice? Any information about the driving portion of the test would be appreciated. Oh, and I've driven the V-Strom a couple hundred miles so far. I have to admit it is an impressive bike. At least it seems like it to me. A. This subject has been beaten to death on this newsgroup. Just go take the test, why should you need to study for it? If you're a competent rider it will be easy to pass. After you fail (which by all accounts you _will_ do) , you will realize you need to learn more about riding than you still remember from 25 years ago. Start by taking the MSF BRC, which will get you the M1 endorsement when you easily pass the skills test at the end of the course. Then, as they say, you will have a ticket to learn. Read as much as you can about riding technique and take additional riding training. All motorcycling books are better than listening to your uneducated riding buddies pooled ignorance. David L. Hough, Keith Code, Lee Parks, Nick Ienatsch, and many others have written lots of good books on riding skills, read some of them. Riding a motorcycle is a high-skill activity like skydiving, mountain climbing, or scuba diving[1], none of which most people would even consider for a moment doing without hours of professional training. Why should motorcycling be any different? The accident stats back up this point of view rather well.
