Q. I would like to set up an environment where I could learn more about Java/CORBA programming techniques in a hands on manner. What would people recommend as the best/cheapest(free!) package of software/technology to assemble?

A. o BORLAND... Between JBuilder and Visigenic you can't go wrong, they even offer a 60 eval on both the CORBA and their Client/Server JBuilder. Go for it, you won't be dissappointed.
