Idaho Distance Education Academy, Jefferson Univ. FAQ

ECept Education > Distance Education

Q. 1. Will corporations and other institutions accept my degree from Jefferson University? YES. Major international companies such as 3M, Farmer’s Insurance Group, Fina Oil, General Motors Corporation, United Auto Workers, Southwest Assurance Corporation, and many other leading organizations have accepted degrees from Jefferson University. The list continues to grow. 2. Is JU an accredited University? YES. The International Commission for Excellence in Higher Education, Inc. has accredited the academic programs and degrees conferred. Acceptance of students and/or credits from other institutions is always the prerogative of the receiving institution or employer. There are more than 80 private accrediting bodies in the United States. The United States Office of Education does not accredit colleges and universities. State governments do not accredit colleges and universities in the United States. Accreditation is a voluntary, private, non-governmental process.

A. We are not in the business of deceiving prospective students. Your negative approach to my newsgroup posting is unfortunate. I realize that traditional education is very much offended by distance learning programs that are cropping up around the U.S.. However, we at Jefferson University are trying very hard to meet the needs of our student/clients. We have recently been awarded accreditation by APICS (Academy for the Promotion of International Culture and Scientific Exchange). We are proud that a prestigious international organization such as this has recognized our curriculum. We do plan to offer courses via the internet as soon as we consult the proper sources. The ICEHE is an accrediting association that was formed by the board of trustees that founded Jefferson University. We are not trying to hide the fact that we are trying very hard to develop a higher standard for distance learning. We are trying to solicit member schools so we can be a large body of legitimate educators striving for approval from traditional educators that are intimidated by the idea that small distance learning programs will decrease traditional school enrollment. I cannot quote any statistical sources, but it is a fact that enrollment at the traditional smaller private universities has considerably decreased. Were it not for their endowment and the fact that they have historically over charged students tuition fees, they would probably be in financial hardship. The reason is that prospective students around the world are starting to realize that distance learning programs like ours are best suited for them and are meeting their individual needs. I do not see the problem with that. We are not saying that all the programs out there are excellent. On the contrary, we believe that a majority of the programs are lacking in integrity. However, there are others such as Chadwick U and Jefferson U that are trying to serve the needs of their students. Don't bother to check, because we are not affiliated with Chadwick U. in any way. I just believe that they are trying to do the same thing we are, which is providing quality distance education. If you're really interested in our programs and our goals for the next 10 years, please contact us and we will be happy to send you all the information that you need. Please don't criticize us because you immediately feel that we are trying to take advantage of people. We are presenting our best face via the medium that is available. The newsgroup is an avenue that we have very recently decided to explore. We have been honest with all of our students, because we realize the problems we may face if we are not.(e.g. LaSalle University and its previous owners). The statements made by Mr.. Peter Drucker are just exact quotes and are not intended to mislead anyone. We have very educated people as our clients and we do not believe that they are stupid enough to believe that we are only gifted in horoscope writing. We are legitimate business people and educators that are trying very hard to offer quality distance learning programs. Please refrain from badgering our programs based on our 15 sentence presentation. What, if I may ask, is the nature of this Commission, and who in turn recognises it as a competent postsecondary accreditor? The US Department of Education does recognise many accreditors, but not this one. Why not? One or two states, btw, do refer to their approval as "accreditation." Is the ICEHE sufficiently independent to call JU to account for any weaknesses in its adherence to its standards? If so, how? Has the ICEHE yet formulated standards as any accreditor should? Could you give us some idea as to the sort of "higher standard" that you seek, and how it might be superior to programs with which we might be more familiar, such as those of the University of London, the University of Waterloo, Stanford University, Nova Southeastern University, State universities and colleges in California, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kansas and others, the Union Institute, the Saybrook Institute, the Fielding Institute, CIIS, Norwich University, Goddard College, Skidmore College, and any number of other established distance educators...?
