Q. I'm looking at nursing qualifications available through distance learning. I would appreciat any comments on or experiences you may have had on such courses indications of the content and structure. views on distance learning vs. "regular" classroom education pointers towards the providers of such courses

A. I read with interest the bit on distance learning. I have worked some with it, and found it exciting. Takes a lot of know-how in several areas, faxing, running cameras, trouble-shooting when equipment does not work (this occurred often). But, I want to set up a baccalaureate nursing program in Ethiopia, using distance learning and summer direct contact. Anyone out there experienced or interested? I have formed the Ethiopian Development Project, Inc. to assist in this. Have gone to Ethiopia two summers now, doing teaching of teacers of nursing and CE to hospital and clinic personnel. Going the end of June again, with six others to do more. The following schools are the ones that I normally recommend for non-residential or very low-residency BSN programs: Regents College of the University of the State of New York, University of Phoenix (I'm not sure if they do a BSN, but they have a growing nonresidential MSN program), University of Delaware, St. Joseph's College (Maine), and California State University at Dominguez Hills. (There is also an excellent BSN program at Thomas Edison State College, but it's restricted to those who live or work in NJ.) All of these are NLN approved.
